The International Biathlon Union (IBU) is mourning the death of two-time Olympic biathlon champion Laura Dahlmeier in an accident in Pakistan. This was reported on the association's website on July 30.

"The IBU is deeply saddened to learn that former Olympic and world champion Laura Dahlmeier has died at the age of 31 following a tragic mountain climbing accident in Pakistan," the statement said.

They added that the death of Dahlmeier, who was the greatest athlete, is being experienced by all athletes, not only in Germany, but also in the world.

The energy and passion of the champion, who has gone beyond the limits of what is possible and accepted various challenges throughout her career, has inspired and touched hundreds of people around the world, the publication noted.

"Her legacy, both in biathlon and beyond, will never be forgotten and will continue to inspire countless athletes and adventurers for generations to come," the IBU said.

Laura Dahlmeier died at the age of 31 after being hit by a rockfall while climbing a peak in the Karakoram mountain range in Pakistan. When the athlete and her partner climbed to a height of about 6 thousand meters on July 29, a rockfall occurred. They decided to climb the peak with minimal equipment and without expedition logistics.
