Kamala Harris refused to run for governor of California
Former US Vice President Kamala Harris, who was elected to the post of head of state in 2024, announced on Wednesday, July 30, that she refuses to run for governor of California.
"In recent months, I have been seriously considering asking the people of California to honor me by being their governor. <...> But I have decided that I will not run in these elections," she said in an official statement posted on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
Harris noted that the American people need to recognize that the government has "let them down too often" and be prepared for changes in the future, which, in her opinion, should be implemented using new methods based on traditional American values and principles.
The politician also stressed that she would still remain in a "fearless struggle" for a better future and expressed the hope that she would be able to "return and listen" to her fellow citizens.
Vladimir Vasiliev, chief researcher at the Institute of the USA and Canada, told Izvestia on May 16 that Harris, just like former US President Joe Biden, is a leader of the past. In addition, he stressed that they should be considered responsible for the defeat of the Democrats in the 2024 elections.
