India has announced its intention to protect national interests in response to the duties

India remains committed to protecting its national interests against the backdrop of the imposition of U.S. tariffs. This was announced on July 30 by the Indian Ministry of Trade and Industry, as cited by the Hindustan Times newspaper.

"India and the United States have been negotiating over the past few months to conclude a fair, balanced and mutually beneficial bilateral trade agreement. We remain committed to this goal," the statement said.

However, they added that the country will also remain committed to protecting its national interests.

"The government will take all necessary steps to ensure our national interests, as was the case with other trade agreements," the country's Ministry of Industry and Trade said in a statement.
