Bloomberg has learned about the US imposition of the largest sanctions against Iran in seven years.

The United States has imposed the most extensive sanctions against Iran in seven years, including against the international shipping network controlled by Tehran, as well as dozens of companies and ships. This was reported by Bloomberg on July 30.

"The U.S. Treasury Department has imposed the most extensive sanctions on Iran in the last seven years. Hossein Shamkhani, whose father is a senior adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was sanctioned along with dozens of individuals, companies and courts in his business empire," the publication says.

It is noted that these measures were taken a week after the European Union (EU) imposed sanctions against Shamkhani and several of his firms, as well as after "ambiguous signals" sent by US President Donald Trump about tightening restrictions on Tehran.

On June 23, Trump called on countries that raised oil prices amid the conflict in which the United States and Israel opposed Iran to keep the cost of fossil fuels low. He warned that those states that raise prices are "playing into the hands of the enemy."
