Experts predicted another postponement of Trump's tariffs for three months
US President Donald Trump is highly likely to delay the resumption of the global trade war on August 1 again, experts interviewed by Izvestia believe. In their opinion, the measures will be postponed for two to three months for most of the countries in respect of which tariffs should be applied.
The American leader planned to impose tariffs on a number of countries, including the European Union, with more than 70 on the list. Trump has already postponed the entry into force of these measures twice. In early April, the Republican announced a pause of 90 days, and in early July postponed the tariffs to August 1.Since mid-July, as a result of trade deals, Washington has lowered rates for some countries, such as Japan (from 25% to 15%) and Indonesia (from 32% to 19%).
The US authorities are also concluding a separate agreement with the EU: the US agreed to reduce tariffs from 30% to 15%, and in return, Europe promised to abandon Russian oil and gas supplies and annually purchase $250 billion from American energy carriers during the three years of Donald Trump's rule.
In addition, duties on China have also decreased from 145% to 30%. A "trade truce" is currently in effect between the parties for 90 days, which expires on August 12. However, officials from both countries are now seeking to extend the tariff break until November.
Experts interviewed by Izvestia concluded that the US administration could still change the parameters of these measures, for example, the list of countries that are waiting for an increase in duties. A postponement is also possible due to the fact that Trump intends to postpone the tariff agreement with China again, this time until November, with which it is not possible to "conclude a deal." In addition, flexibility on this issue will allow the US president to reach new trade agreements faster and prevent the formation of a single anti-American alliance.
