Starting from August 1, the United States will impose duties on imports from India in the amount of 25%. This was announced on Wednesday, July 30, by the American President Donald Trump.

"They have always purchased the vast majority of military equipment from Russia and are the largest buyer of Russian energy along with China. <...> India will pay a 25% duty, as well as a fine for the above actions, starting on August 1," Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.

The politician explained that the decision on duties is also related to the trade imbalance between the United States and India. According to him, the United States has a huge deficit in trade with India due to "high duties" and "harsh and nasty non-monetary barriers."

On the same day, Bloomberg said that it was the United States that would lose out as a result of trade deals concluded with other countries. It was noted that from the point of view of economic theory, the fact that the United States emerged victorious from both rounds of negotiations is a false statement. As a result of the tariffs, it is American consumers who will pay for most of the price increases.

Earlier, on July 28, Trump said that the amount of duties for countries that have not reached a trade agreement with the United States will range from 15% to 20%. He added that the deadline for concluding trade agreements with other countries would be August 1.
