Zakharova accused Germany of repressions against Russian journalists

The German authorities are taking part in repressions against Russian journalists in order to clean up the country's information field. This was announced on July 30 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"The German authorities have set a course to squeeze the Russian media out of the country <...> This is a deliberate desire to clean up your own information field," she said at a briefing.

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the German authorities use various methods to achieve this goal, including the expulsion of Russian journalists from the country. Zakharova stressed that the German government intends to purge the information field of Germany from the Russian media, which are popular and respected in the country.

"Official Berlin is actively involved in repressions against Russian journalists at the level of the European Union (EU), joining all unthinkable sanctions, and in a national capacity it treats correspondents from Russia," the diplomat added.

According to her, Russia will respond to every case of harassment of Russian journalists in Germany and take measures against German correspondents.

On June 27, German Ambassador to Russia Alexander Lambsdorf was strongly protested in connection with the pressure exerted on the Russian media in Germany. They pointed out to him that the continued harassment of Russian journalists in Germany and attempts to restrict their professional activities were unacceptable.

On June 11, Zakharova stressed that the Russian Federation would take measures in response to Germany's actions against journalists from the Russian Federation. According to her, Germany uses various methods to displace Russia's media presence from its information space. For example, broadcasting is blocked there, accreditation is denied, harassment and force are used to influence journalists and their families.
