Zakharova pointed to deliberate restrictions on the voting of Moldovan citizens.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, accused the Moldovan authorities of deliberately restricting the opportunities for citizens of the country to vote abroad. She announced this at a briefing on July 30.
"The Moldovan authorities are delineating the dividing line between the citizens of their country with their own hands. They divide them, pit them against each other and push them together," Zakharova said.
Thus, she commented on Chisinau's intention to open only two polling stations in Russia, where a large Moldovan diaspora lives, while there are dozens in Western countries.
"The number of polling stations will be increased from 60 to 73 in Italy, from 26 to 36 in Germany, from 20 to 26 in France, from 16 to 23 in Romania, and from 16 to 22 in the United States. In Moldova, this caused people to be shocked. Just like in the Moldovan diaspora in Russia," Zakharova gave an example.
A representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry also said that a petition had previously been created to increase the number of polling stations. It was signed by more than 2.5 thousand people, but there was no official response from Chisinau on this issue.
During the briefing, Zakharova stressed that Russia is ready to provide all opportunities for organizing the voting of Moldovan citizens, as it does at the request of any country.
Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the voting rights of Moldovan citizens living outside the republic were being violated by Chisinau. He also stressed that Russia considers it important to respect the electoral rights of citizens and continues to adhere to a policy of non-interference.
On July 26, supporters of the parties of Socialists, Communists, "The Heart of Moldova" and "The Future of Moldova" protested in Chisinau against the rule of the President of the Republic Maia Sandu. Former President of the Republic, leader of the Socialist Party Igor Dodon noted that more than 10 thousand people took to the streets of Chisinau, and also expressed confidence that they would win.
