The Internet speed test service Speedtest collected technical data in Russia on the operation of networks that could get to foreign intelligence agencies. This was stated by State Duma Deputy Anton Nemkin on Wednesday, July 30.

"This is exactly what the International Academy of Communications pointed out back in 2024: the use of such services increases the risk of cyber attacks and data leaks," RT quotes the parliamentarian.

Earlier that day, Roskomnadzor announced that it would restrict access to Speedtest due to identified threats to the security of the public communications network and the Russian segment of the Internet, IA Regnum reports.

The agency recommended that Russians use domestic analogues, including the "Sift" application, according to the website. kp.ru .

The Speedtest service, launched in 2006, allows you to check Internet speed and connection latency, writes Life.Ru .

Earlier, on May 29, the Ministry of Finance allowed restrictions on the use of foreign cloud services in the Russian Federation, which have domestic counterparts. It was clarified that the corresponding decision would give Russian companies "the opportunity to receive additional earnings."
