In the near future, scientists expect aftershocks in Kamchatka, the magnitude of which will reach up to 7.5, and possible tsunamis on the coast of the Avacha Bay. This was reported on July 30 in the Telegram channel of the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Kamchatka Territory.
"Scientists have concluded that aftershocks with a magnitude of up to 7.5 with an intensity of up to six points in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky city district and a dangerous tsunami caused by them on the coast of Avacha Bay are expected in the near future," the report says.
It is specified that due to the high magnitude of the earthquake and a series of aftershocks, increased seismicity is not expected in the area of the Avacha Bay.
Due to the situation, rescuers do not recommend visiting the territories adjacent to the waters of the Avacha Bay and the Pacific Ocean in the near future. They also recommend to refrain from trips to Lake Prilevnoye, the coastal line of the slope of Nikolskaya hill, Khalaktyrsky beach.
The earthquake in Kamchatka occurred earlier in the day. A tsunami threat has been declared on the coast of the Avacha Bay. An emergency situation regime is in effect in the North Kuril region of the Sakhalin Region and in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
A regional headquarters has been deployed in Kamchatka, and the healthcare system has been put on high alert. According to the Kamchatka Ministry of Health, one person was injured, the woman's condition is satisfactory. Later it was reported that at the moment there may be from 7 thousand to 8 thousand tourists in Kamchatka.
