- Australia's first space rocket, Eris, crashed immediately after launch
The first Australian-made Eris orbital rocket, launched by Gilmour Space Technologies, crashed 14 seconds after launch, the Associated Press (AP) reported on July 30.
It is reported that the rocket broke away from the launch pad, overcame the launch tower, after which it hovered in the air and fell down. Gilmour Space Technologies commented that all four rocket engines turned on and worked for 23 seconds. Then the rocket took off and flew for less than 15 seconds.
Adam Gilmore, the company's CEO, noted that, on the whole, he was already glad that the rocket was able to lift off from the launch pad, but he would like to observe a longer flight time after launch.
On July 25, a successful launch of the Soyuz-2.1b rocket took place at the Vostochny cosmodrome. After that, the Roscosmos state Corporation announced that two Ionosphere-M spacecraft had been launched into orbit after the launch of the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle. It was clarified that the upper stage continued to launch 18 small satellites into orbit.
