The Moldovan authorities, with the support of the European Union (EU), will intimidate the opposition and commit political reprisals as part of the election campaign. This was stated on July 30 by the ex-president of the republic, leader of the Socialist Party Igor Dodon in his Telegram channel.

"If you are a Eurosceptic, if you criticize the regime or just have a different opinion than [President] Maia Sandu, you are called a 'hybrid', a 'criminal', a 'foreign agent', an 'enemy', a 'threat to society,'— the politician wrote.

Dodon added that such methods of fighting the opposition are "unthinkable" in democratic states. However, according to the former Moldovan president, the people will no longer tolerate a "gang of incompetent fanatics" in the country's leadership.

"We must get rid of the madmen who are leading us. <...> In the autumn [at the parliamentary elections] we have a chance to rid the country of the yellow dictatorship once and for all,— Dodon concluded.

On July 26, supporters of the parties of Socialists, Communists, "The Heart of Moldova" and "The Future of Moldova" protested in Chisinau against the rule of Moldovan President Maia Sandu. Igor Dodon noted that more than 10 thousand people took to the streets of Chisinau, and also expressed confidence that they would win.

Later, on July 29, three Moldovan opposition parties jointly submitted documents to the country's Central Election Commission (CEC) for the official registration of a new electoral association. The key position of the bloc is the restoration of full-fledged relations with Russia. The bloc includes the Socialist Party of Moldova, the Future of Moldova and the Heart of Moldova.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu gathered members of the country's Supreme Security Council on July 30 to hold a meeting and discuss foreign interference in the upcoming parliamentary elections in September.
