Kamchatka, which has suffered from a series of earthquakes and tsunamis, may currently host from 7,000 to 8,000 tourists. Artur Abdyukhanov, head of the press service of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT), told Izvestia about this on July 30.

He noted that now, due to increased seismic activity in the region, restrictions have been imposed on visits to nature parks and a number of tourist routes.

"Tour operators do not observe cancellations of tours to Kamchatka. There are no drops in bookings, and there are no refunds either. It is now known that the port in Severo-Kurilsk has been damaged, and there may be cancellations of tours there until the infrastructure is fully restored," Abdyukhanov added.

The PCT spokesman pointed out that in recent years, this destination has been very popular with tourists, as everyone wants to see volcanoes and swim in the ocean.

The earthquake occurred earlier in the day. A tsunami threat has been declared on the coast of the Avacha Bay. In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the collapse of the wall of one of the kindergartens was recorded. The state of emergency is in effect in the North Kuril region of the Sakhalin region and in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

On behalf of the Governor of Kamchatka, Vladimir Solodov, a regional headquarters was deployed in the region. The healthcare system has been put on an enhanced regime. According to the Kamchatka Ministry of Health, one person was injured, the woman's condition is satisfactory.
