Residual tremors are being recorded in the Sakhalin Region, and seismic activity is on the decline. This was announced on Wednesday, July 30, by the governor of the region, Valery Limarenko, on the Rossiya 24 TV channel.

"All that's happening now is fading tremors. According to experts, this is a sign that the dynamics of the earthquake is declining. We have an optimistic view of what will happen in the near future," Limarenko said.

The head of the region also said that engineering networks had been restored in Severo-Kurilsk. According to him, the energy system in the village is generally functioning, despite possible local disruptions, which have not yet been reported. The water supply has also been restored.

The governor added that as a result of the tremors, the chimneys were seriously damaged — according to preliminary data, the destruction affected about 90% of such structures. According to Limarenko, they will have to be restored promptly.

"Residents entered their apartments. So far, there is no feedback about the damage. <...> The electrical system has been turned on, and it is mostly working. There may be some local nuances, but so far there is no information about this. And the water supply system is working," Limarenko added.

The earthquake in Kamchatka occurred earlier in the day. A tsunami threat has been announced on the coast of Avacha Bay in Kamchatka due to a strong earthquake. As a result of a seismic event in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the wall of one of the kindergartens collapsed. An emergency regime has been introduced in the North Kuril region of the Sakhalin Region.

Limarenko later reported that the first wave of the tsunami had hit the territory of the coastal zone of Severo-Kurilsk, and there were no casualties or serious damage. He added that residents are being evacuated in the city, and all necessary measures have been taken to ensure people's safety.

On behalf of the Governor of Kamchatka, Vladimir Solodov, a regional headquarters was deployed in Kamchatka. The region's healthcare system has been placed on high alert.
