The Leningrad Region has become one of the leaders in the country in reducing the death rate. Special results have been achieved in the treatment of cardiovascular and oncological diseases. All procedures and operations are available under a compulsory medical insurance (CHI) policy. The Beloostrov High-tech clinic has started performing eye surgeries, including unique ones that were previously impossible under compulsory medical insurance.

"I came here to have my eye removed. I was in such pain that I wanted to rip out my eye and throw it away, as they say. I just can only say thank you that I had this operation," said Vladimir Dupin, a patient at the clinic.

The man injured his eye in childhood. Due to the severe pain, the doctors could have simply removed it, but decided to connect a modern prosthesis with native muscles.

"Thanks to the CHI program, we perform almost all types of operations, from simple routine lens replacement to glaucoma. We can afford reconstructive surgery, which is possible in a few institutions in the country," said Alexey Anisimov, Head of the Ophthalmology department at the Beloostrov Clinic.

The country's first medical city, the Beloostrov Clinic, joined the compulsory health insurance program back in 2024 and significantly expanded the range of free services for residents of the region. In 2025, the center is planning 1,700 hospitalizations for compulsory medical insurance. In total, more than 13 thousand people will receive high-tech medical care free of charge in the region's institutions.

Telemedicine and a network of paramedic and obstetric stations are actively developing in the Leningrad region. In 2024, 11 such facilities and two outpatient clinics were built, and 10 more are planned to open in 2025.

"Today, high—tech medical care is free assistance to all citizens who need it. And it is provided within the framework of compulsory medical insurance. In 2025, more than 2.6 billion rubles have been allocated," said Alexander Zharkov, Chairman of the Health Committee of the Leningrad Region.

The region also pays great attention to the rehabilitation of patients. The Leningrad Regional Medical Rehabilitation Center in the city of Kommunar provides assistance to participants of the special military operation (SVO) who were seriously injured.

"The radial nerve was broken, the shrapnel wound was on its own, and now we are trying to restore it, we are developing a brush so that it more or less works," said patient Andrey Kudryavtsev.

The director of the center, Anna Sokolova, explained that the institution uses a multidisciplinary approach. Within its framework, a team of different specialists works with each patient. She clarified that the center has 14 such teams, each of which includes a doctor in physical rehabilitation medicine, as well as, as a rule, a psychologist and a speech therapist.

In 2025, the center is planning 1.7 thousand hospitalizations for compulsory medical insurance. In total, more than 13 thousand people will receive high-tech medical care free of charge in the region's institutions.

On June 3, it was reported that a high-tech Prosthetics Center for military veterans was opened in the Moscow region, where military personnel with severe wounds will be able to undergo comprehensive rehabilitation, and classes will include unique sports training.
