More than 60 vacationers of the surf camp on Khalaktyrsky beach were evacuated due to the threat of a tsunami in Kamchatka. This was announced by the regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in its Telegram channel on July 30.

"Due to the threat of a tsunami, it was decided to take them [vacationers] to a safe area. For this, two off—road vehicles of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and one vehicle of regional rescuers were involved," the message says.

The ministry clarified that there is currently no significant increase in water levels in the settlements of the region.

The earthquake in Kamchatka occurred earlier in the day. A tsunami threat has been announced on the coast of Avacha Bay in Kamchatka due to a strong earthquake. As a result of a seismic event in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the wall of one of the kindergartens collapsed. An emergency regime has been introduced in the North Kuril region of the Sakhalin Region.

Later, the governor of the Sakhalin Region, Valery Limarenko, announced that the first wave of the tsunami had hit the territory of the coastal zone of Severo-Kurilsk, and there were no casualties or serious damage. He added that residents are being evacuated in the city, and all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of people.

On behalf of the Governor of Kamchatka, Vladimir Solodov, a regional headquarters was deployed in Kamchatka. The region's healthcare system has been put on high alert.
