The US Treasury Secretary expressed concern about China's purchases of oil from Iran
The United States expresses concern about purchases by the People's Republic of China (PRC) of Iranian oil, which is under sanctions. This was announced on July 29 by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant.
"We have expressed concern about Chinese capacity in the world and what this could mean this year and in the next few years. We also expressed concern about their purchases of sanctioned Iranian oil," he said at a briefing.
Bessent said that he and U.S. Trade Representative Jameson Greer spent two "eventful" days with the Chinese delegation led by Vice Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China He Lifeng, and the negotiations themselves were held as part of the third meeting of the parties.
However, as the minister stressed, it is impossible to reach any specific agreements in the ongoing negotiations without the knowledge of US President Donald Trump, with whom he intends to meet in the near future to discuss the terms of a possible deal.
On July 26, White House Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Washington's intention to establish respectful relations with Beijing. However, he noted that the United States intends to defend its positions on issues where there are differences.
