Russian weightlifter Kuzminova wins the European Junior Championships

Russian Varvara Kuzminova won the gold medal at the European Youth Weightlifting Championships. The competition takes place in Madrid.

Kuzminova is 17 years old. She competed in the weight category up to 77 kg. The athlete became the first in the barbell jerk, showing a result of 104 kg and setting a European record. In the barbell push, the result of the Russian woman was 122 kg. The total amount of Kuzminova's two—man event is 226 kg.

Minni Hormavirta, an athlete from Finland, took second place with a score of 219 kg (95 kg in the snatch and 124 kg in the clean and jerk). The third place went to Maria Ivanova from Belarus with a total score of 217 kg (94+123).

Earlier, on May 4, Varvara Kuzminova won the World Youth Weightlifting Championship in Peru. At these competitions, she set a world record for the overall result, lifting 235 kg.
