Lack of physical activity and increased stress affected the rate of brain aging in survivors of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. This opinion was expressed by Viktor Shakhnovich, a neurologist, MD, head of the Center for Neurology, on Tuesday, July 29.

"In order for the brain to function normally, there must be a normal blood flow, and in order for there to be a normal blood flow, a person must constantly have physical activity. Because if the physical activity is low, then the cardiac output is very low and the amount of blood entering the body decreases, and the blood carries oxygen," he said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

According to the neurologist, a decrease in cardiac output leads to a reduction in the volume of blood entering the brain, and this causes oxygen starvation, or hypoxia.

"Our ability to walk and play sports was restricted, sports and recreation complexes were closed, and running in parks was forbidden - this is the first reason. The second reason is that the person was at home all the time, there was nothing to do at home, and the body did not get tired, and if there was no fatigue, then there was not enough need to recover, and sleep reduces stress and increases tolerance to anything," the specialist explained.

The day before, cardiologist Evgenia Bogaevskaya said that the coronavirus significantly increases the likelihood of cardiovascular diseases. She noted that the research of scientists revealed: Those who have had severe COVID-19 have a doubling risk of heart disease in the next three years. Bogaevskaya added that such patients automatically fall into the risk group, according to the website. kp.ru .

On July 23, Rospotrebnadzor reported that 114 cases of infection with the new strain of coronavirus XFG (Stratus) had been identified in Russia. Most of those infected are residents of Moscow, according to 360.ru .

On January 25, it was reported that, according to estimates by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the coronavirus probably originated in a laboratory, and not in nature. At the same time, the CIA is not confident enough in its assessment of the causes of the virus: both scenarios — laboratory and natural origin of COVID-19 — remain plausible.
