Britain recognizes the statehood of Palestine in September ahead of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This was announced on July 29 by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, at a press conference after an emergency Cabinet meeting.

He stressed that recognition of Palestine will happen if the Israeli government "does not reach a cease-fire" and "does not commit to a long-term peace process."

"The United Kingdom will recognize the State of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly in September, unless the Israeli government takes significant steps to end the terrible situation in Gaza," the BBC quoted him as saying.

The British Prime Minister added that the demands on the Palestinian Hamas movement remain the same: the release of hostages, the signing of a peace agreement, a cease-fire, disarmament and withdrawal from the government of Gaza.

Starmer promised to evaluate the steps taken by Israel and Hamas to end the conflict before making a final decision. He also guaranteed that neither side would have the right of veto.

On July 24, French leader Emmanuel Macron announced his intention to recognize the State of Palestine. He noted that this will contribute to ending the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip, as well as rescue and comprehensive assistance to local residents. Shortly after, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the decision, considering it an encouragement of terror.
