In recent years, relations between Moscow and Pyongyang have reached unprecedented heights. This was stated on July 29 by Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko at a bilateral meeting with representatives of the DPRK.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Chairman of the State Affairs of the DPRK, the highly respected Kim Jong-un, have developed very warm, businesslike, friendly, and comradely relations. Thanks to their efforts, our relations have reached unprecedented heights in recent years," she said.

Matvienko stressed that Russia and the DPRK are linked by decades of strong friendship and close good neighborliness. According to her, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement has become evidence of good relations between the two countries.

Chairman of the Parliament of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Park In-chol said at the meeting that the Republic would continue to provide assistance in protecting Russian sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia considers China, Iran and North Korea to be its allies. He added that the Russian Federation largely shares the vision of the foundations of the world order with these countries.

On July 12, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed that Moscow and Pyongyang are fulfilling their Comprehensive strategic partnership agreement and plan to continue to adhere to this line in the future. He pointed out that the two countries are fighting together to ensure that Eurasia does not become a "patrimony" of NATO, which is trying to spread its influence over the entire continent.
