The top 7 most demanded medical tests among Russians are named
In addition to clinical blood analysis, ALT (alanine aminotransferase) and AST (aspartate aminotransferase) became the most in-demand medical tests among Russians in the first half of 2025. This was reported to Izvestia on July 30 in the press service of the multidisciplinary medical holding company SM-Clinic.
Thus, according to the data presented, the most in demand is a detailed clinical blood test — it accounted for 6.4% of the total number of services provided by the SM-Clinic laboratory diagnostic center in the first half of 2025.
As explained by general practitioner, cardiologist Anush Avetisyan, this is a fundamental screening test in laboratory diagnostics. This analysis makes it possible to detect anemia (decreased hemoglobin levels), inflammatory processes, infectious diseases and hematological pathologies, to carry out dynamic monitoring of chronic conditions and serves as a basis for differential diagnosis.
This is followed by ALT (alanine aminotransferase) and AST (aspartate aminotransferase) — 2.9% of the total number of analyzes performed by the laboratory.
"These enzymes are sensitive biomarkers of liver function and serve as indicators of damage to hepatocytes (liver cells) in various diseases such as hepatitis, cirrhosis or non-alcoholic/alcoholic liver disease. In addition, increased activity of these transaminases may be associated with damage to the heart muscle, kidneys, and skeletal muscles," Avetisyan said.
Creatinine and C-reactive protein (CRP) analysis are in fourth and fifth place in popularity, accounting for 2.7% and 2.6% of the total number of services, respectively.
"C-reactive protein (CRP) is a marker of systemic inflammation, widely used to diagnose and assess the activity of inflammatory diseases, as well as to predict the risk of cardiovascular pathologies, including heart attack and stroke. Creatinine serves as a reliable indicator of kidney function, reflecting their ability to filter and remove metabolic products," explained the cardiologist.
In sixth place, a general urinalysis (OAM, Urine test) with sediment microscopy is 2.6%. According to the doctor, this analysis is an important diagnostic tool for detecting urinary tract diseases, metabolic disorders and systemic pathologies.
Urea analysis is in seventh place, accounting for 2% of the total number of services. It is prescribed to evaluate the functioning of the kidneys and liver, as well as to identify protein imbalances in the body. In particular, it helps to identify kidney failure, evaluate the effectiveness of treatment of kidney and liver diseases, and monitor the condition of patients undergoing dialysis or chemotherapy.
Collectively, the top 7 analyzes account for 22% of the total volume of services provided by the SM-Clinic laboratory and diagnostic center, the press service of the holding clarified.
Urologist, andrologist of JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg clinic), PhD Karen Mkrtchyan spoke about the symptoms of kidney cancer on June 27. According to him, the classic triad of symptoms are pain in the side, blood in the urine, and palpable swelling.
