Auto expert warned about ways to cheat when buying used cars
When buying a used car, you need to pay attention to the VIN numbers and compare them with the data in the documents, as well as check the bottom of the car in case the numbers were welded into the body. Automotive expert Maxim Rakitin told about this on Tuesday, July 29.
"First of all, we need to check the legal purity. There are quite a lot of databases. Secondly, check whether the license plate numbers have been changed — this is the body, VIN numbers, that is, you need to check all this, see if the data match the documents," he said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
According to the expert, it is better for the buyer of a supported car to seek help in order not to be deceived.
Rakitin added that one of the ways to cheat when selling a used car is to replace the VIN numbers on the stolen car with new documents.
"It's better to lift the car onto a lift and see if it has a weld somewhere in the first quarter of the body, which means there was a quadruple welding, most likely, the VIN was simply welded together with a piece of the body," said the auto expert.
He also advised paying attention to the authenticity of documents by comparing security symbols.
On July 8, Alexander Kornev, head of the Department for work with importers at Gazprombank Autoleasing, gave advice on how to protect a car from theft. He noted that it is better to leave cars in lighted places or under video surveillance, as dark corners often attract hijackers.
