Thailand, in response to Cambodia's violation of the truce, may either increase pressure or propose resuming discussions on the final "peace treaty" from a stronger position. This was stated on July 29 in an interview with Izvestia by Yegor Dibrov, a political scientist and member of the Faculty of Political Science at Lomonosov Moscow State University.

"Thailand may increase the pressure and aggravate the situation, or suggest resuming discussions on the final peace treaty from a stronger position. In this situation, Russia needs to declare its desire to create a permanent dialogue platform for discussing controversial issues between the parties," the source said.

The expert also cited the reasons for the ongoing fighting, despite the existing truce agreement. According to him, the lack of a clear vision of the future on both sides is a signal of the need to review the agreements reached on more favorable terms.

In addition, Dibrov drew attention to the fact that external factors have a significant impact on the current situation.

"Some countries, including the United States, Great Britain and France, benefit from continued instability in this region to create "trades" on other major geopolitical platforms. This is especially felt in a region such as Southeast Asia, which is located at the junction of important transport routes and communications," the political scientist explained.

The expert added that the lack of solutions to the underlying problems is not the only reason for the escalation of the conflict. He stressed that the parties do not have sufficient military-industrial resources for long-term military operations. This conflict can also serve as a tool for short-term geopolitical pressure on China, Dibrov concluded.

On July 25, Reuters reported that the escalation of the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia could lead to the outbreak of war. New clashes between the sides were also reported. At least 15 people died as a result of the mutual attacks.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced on July 28 that Acting Thai Prime Minister Phum Tham Vechayachai and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Maneta had agreed to a ceasefire at talks in Kuala Lumpur, and the agreement entered into force at midnight local time. However, on July 29, the deputy official representative of the Thai army, Richa Sukuvanon, said that the Cambodian military violated the terms of the agreement immediately after it began, Khaosod reports.
