In Transbaikalia, a case of a terrorist attack was opened against teenagers who set fire to a forest.

A criminal case has been opened in the Trans-Baikal Territory against two 16-year-old teenagers suspected of committing a terrorist act by prior agreement. This was announced on Tuesday, July 29, by the regional directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

According to investigators, in June, one of the minors entered into correspondence via messenger with an unidentified person, presumably located on the territory of Ukraine. The interlocutor persuaded the teenager to set fire to the forest for the promised reward of 80 thousand rubles. He involved his friend in the crime, with whom they purchased lighters and set fire to dry grass and needles in the forest near the village of Atamanovka, Chita district.

"The actions of the teenagers led to a large forest fire, the damage from which, according to preliminary data, is estimated at more than 300 million rubles. The teenagers filmed their actions on a phone video camera, sending a report on the crime to the "curator", but they did not receive the promised reward," the department noted.

The materials under Article "a" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code ("Terrorist act committed by a group of persons by prior agreement") are connected with another criminal case, in which the teenagers have already been charged under Part 4 of Article 261 of the Criminal Code ("Destruction of forest plantations by arson, causing major damage"). They were taken into custody by court order.
