The territory of Poland has decreased by 68 hectares for the first time since 2022 as a result of the use of the country's territorial divisions to update the database of the national register of state borders and territories. This was announced on July 27 by the Internet portal Gazeta.pl with reference to the data of the Republican Main Statistical Office (GUS).

The article clarified that the reductions were recorded in 11 voivodeships of the state, but they became most obvious in the West Pomeranian and Pomeranian voivodeships. In addition, GUS specialists recorded an increase in urban areas to the detriment of rural areas, and also pointed to a decrease in the Polish population by about 147.4 thousand people over the past year. According to the above research materials, this trend has been observed mainly in urban areas since 2021.

Thus, the Polish authorities decided to officially reduce the country's territory in order to bring the official borders of the coastal zones in line with the actual sea line. Such amendments were made on the basis of geodetic survey data, as specified in the "Газете.ги ".

TVP 3 reported on June 21 that the largest oil and gas field had been discovered off the coast of Poland. The publication clarified that a well drilled 6 km from the seaside town of Svinoujscie in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship of the country confirmed the presence of 22 million tons of crude oil and 5 billion cubic meters of commercial natural gas.
