Serbia refused to impose sanctions against Russia
Serbia refused to impose sanctions against Russia. This was announced on July 28 by the Minister for European Integration of Serbia Nemanja Starovic.
According to the minister, there are three reasons why Serbia will not impose sanctions.
"Value—based, because we do not believe that sanctions are the right method in international politics. Economic — because the imposition of sanctions will cause serious damage to the Serbian economy. Political — because it would jeopardize relations with Russia, which are traditionally important and valuable to us," Starovich said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Starovic stressed that his personal position on this issue coincides with the position of the Serbian government — as long as Professor Juro Matsut is in charge, no sanctions will be imposed against Russia.
Alexey Chepa, First Deputy chairman of the State Duma's International Affairs Committee, said on July 25 that Serbia's condition to impose sanctions against Russia only when the republic's membership in the European Union (EU) is obvious is a bargain. According to the MP, the sooner the European Union collapses, the more actively any members will be accepted into it.
