Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, listing Russia's main allies, highly appreciated the contribution of the military personnel of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in liberating the territory of the Kursk region from representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). He stated this on July 28 during his speech at the XI All-Russian Youth Forum "Territory of Meanings".

"We have a huge number of partners, like-minded people, and allies. The closest allies in the West are, of course, the Republic of Belarus, and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the east <...>. We helped our Korean neighbors gain independence, they helped us liberate the Kursk region from the Ukrainian neo—Nazis," he said.

According to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Russia and the DPRK have been united by fraternal ties for decades.

During the meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Lavrov thanked him for Pyongyang's support for Russia's special military operation, and also expressed appreciation for the participation of the Korean People's Army in the liberation of the Kursk Region. The Russian Foreign Ministry clarified that during this meeting, special attention was paid to the joint work of the two states in specific areas and the implementation of agreements reached "at the highest level."
