There are no vaccines for rickettsiosis, so Russians need to take precautions when outdoors. Andrey Prodeus, an immunologist and Candidate of Medical Sciences, said this on Monday, July 28, commenting on the increase in the proportion of ticks infected with rickettsia, which this year exceeded the figures for borreliosis.

"There is no vaccine for rickettsia, as well as for borreliosis, there is only one for tick-borne encephalitis. But the first two diseases can be treated with antibiotics. When hiking in the forest, you need to use protective equipment and dress properly to avoid tick bites," the specialist said in an interview with the "Paragraph".

According to the doctor, the increase in the proportion of ticks infected with rickettsia can only be explained by natural processes.

"It is important to diagnose the disease in time. Borreliosis is easier to detect, and doctors are more prepared for it. People can identify it by the bite site, which looks like a target: a red dot in the center and a circle on the outside. Rickettsiosis does not have such classic signs. His common symptoms include fever, headache, rash," concluded the immunologist.

To protect yourself from rickettsiosis, first of all you should protect yourself from tick bites. To do this, you should: use repellents in the forest — repellent aerosols or ointments; wear light and closed clothes; cover all easily accessible places: put on hats or hoods, tuck trousers into socks; inspect yourself and animals after walks, reports 360.ru .

Roman Fishkin, a general practitioner and healthcare expert, noted that the symptoms of tick-borne rickettsiosis appear 3-7 days after a tick bite. The patient's temperature rises to 39-40 degrees, which can last from five to 10 days, according to the website. kp.ru .

In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, 26 people have been diagnosed with tick-borne infections over the past week. Experts note a decrease in pest activity.
