Natalia Mishchenko, Head of the Head and Neck Tumor Department No. 8 at the Moscow Regional Cancer Dispensary, spoke about the risk factors for developing tongue cancer.

According to her, smoking and alcohol consumption significantly increase the risk of developing tongue cancer. An additional factor may be regular injury to the mucous membrane, for example, due to sharp edges of teeth or an improperly installed prosthesis, Radio 1 reported on Monday, July 28.

The doctor stressed that heredity also plays an important role — people with a family history of cancer should pay special attention to their health and visit the dentist at least twice a year.

Mishchenko also recalled the importance of daily oral hygiene — it helps to reduce inflammation that can provoke the development of the disease. If non-healing ulcers appear on the tongue, pain occurs when swallowing, or the voice changes, you should immediately consult a doctor. 360.ru .

In February, oncologist Vladislav Evseev spoke about common myths about cancer. So, one of them is the opinion that you can get cancer. Heredity can also increase the likelihood of developing cancer, but it is not the only reason, writes RT.

Earlier that day, oncologist Evgeny Cheremushkin said that in summer, due to longer sun exposure, frequent flights and jet lag, the risk of developing cancer increases.
