The price of oil rose by more than 2% after Trump's statements on Ukraine
The price of oil increased by more than 2% after the resumption of geopolitical concerns due to the establishment by US President Donald Trump of a new deadline for reaching a truce between Russia and Ukraine. This was announced on July 28 by the Trading Economics portal.
"WTI crude oil futures jumped more than 2% to $66.70 per barrel on Monday, driven by renewed geopolitical concerns after US President Donald Trump set a deadline for Russia to agree to a truce in Ukraine," the publication says.
It is clarified that the 18th package of EU sanctions, which includes a price ceiling for Russian oil, also played a role.
On July 27, the US president announced the conclusion of a trade deal with the European Union. 15% duties will be imposed on European imports. Europe is also committed to purchasing $750 billion worth of energy from the United States.
On July 28, Trump also announced a new deadline of 10-12 days for Russia to agree to a cease-fire in Ukraine, instead of the previous 50-day deadline. Back on July 14, he announced the introduction of secondary duties by the United States of 100% against the Russian Federation if a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is not reached in 50 days.
