Russian drivers show different views on how long a car retains its novelty. Almost a third of respondents of all ages (30%) believe that even with a mileage of 20,000 km, a car can be considered new if it is in excellent condition. <url> experts, who interviewed more than 1.1 Russian car owners, told Izvestia about this on July 29.

Mileage is the main criterion for determining the novelty of a car, 76% of respondents believe. Motorists aged 36-45 are particularly conservative in this regard: 81% of this group consider mileage to be a key criterion. Among young people (18-25 years old) The emphasis on mileage is less common: about 65% called it the main one.

The perception depends not only on the mileage, but also on the age of the owner. The younger generation is prone to compromises, while mature and experienced drivers often operate within strict limits: only "from the cabin" and up to 10 thousand km. Almost 36% of all respondents said that the car ceases to be new to them immediately after leaving the dealership. More than a quarter of the youngest car owners (18-25 years old) continue to consider their car new during the first three years.

Most of all, generations differ in their views on a car that was used for a test drive at a dealership or had a single owner. Among drivers under the age of 35, 72% agree to an "almost new" car only with perfect appearance and minimal mileage. While in the group of drivers over 55 years old, a third of respondents are ready to consider a new and more "aged" car if it has been serviced by a dealer and there are no signs of repair.

According to analysts, since the beginning of the year, ad views with slightly used cars (up to two years old and with low mileage) have increased by 37%, and the volume of supply in this segment has increased by 61%.

Earlier, on July 25, it was reported that in the first half of 2025, the share of used cars of Chinese brands in sales at dealerships increased from 7% to 11.5%. Over time, the share of Chinese car sales in mileage will only grow, experts say.
