The historical foundation of relations between Russia and African countries is solid, but it needs to be strengthened. This was stated on July 28 by a scientist from Côte d'Ivoire, Adou Yao Nicez, at the third Russian-African conference of the Valdai International Discussion Club, held in the capital of South Africa, Pretoria.

"The foundations of cooperation between African countries and Russia are very broad and stable. <...> Africa has appreciated and continues to appreciate the fact that Russia has never been a colonial power on the continent. However, with the generational change in African countries, it is necessary to constantly work on updating the heritage that is so important for the continent and the whole world," TASS quoted him as saying.

According to Adu Yao Nicez, young Africans who have completed their studies in Russia can contribute to the preservation of historical memory in relations between the countries.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on June 23 that Russia's cooperation with African countries could be mutually beneficial. According to him, after the collapse of the USSR, the Russian Federation lost its position on the continent, but this situation began to change.
