Psychologist gave advice on how to deal with panic attacks
A panic attack is a sudden attack of intense fear or anxiety that can occur at any moment. The duration of this condition varies from a few minutes to several hours. This was told to Izvestia on July 29 by a practicing psychologist, candidate of Psychological Sciences, business coach, CEO of OOO "Together.ABOUT" Olesya Berezhnaya, explaining how to cope with this condition.
The expert identifies three categories of panic attacks. Spontaneous attacks occur unexpectedly and for no apparent reason. Situational attacks occur as a result of specific circumstances, for example, when speaking in public or traveling in public transport. Conditional attribution attacks are related to physiological factors such as caffeine, alcohol, or hormonal changes.
"Among the key causes of panic attacks are chronic stress, psychological trauma, genetic predisposition, as well as personality traits such as increased anxiety and perfectionism," the psychologist noted.
According to the expert, it is important to stop catastrophic thoughts by replacing them with positive attitudes.
"It'll pass," "I'll manage." Another way is intense sensory stimulation, for example, with the help of cold, sour taste or a pungent smell of essential oils," the expert said.
Finally, the psychologist advises not to resist the attack, but to let the emotions pass through you.
"A panic attack is not a weakness, but a mental signal. It can be the beginning of changes and growth," Berezhnaya stressed.
If seizures recur frequently, a psychologist recommends seeking professional help.
On April 26, Sergey Martynov, a psychotherapist and founder of the International Institute of Psychosomatic Health, listed the causes of procrastination and gave some tips on how to solve this problem.
