The Second Western District Military Court sentenced in absentia 40-year-old mercenary Rodrigo Christian Carvallo from the Republic of Paraguay, who fought for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), to 24 years in a high-security penal colony with serving the first four years in prison. This is reported on the official website of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation.

"The criminal case was considered by the court in accordance with the general procedure of criminal proceedings in the absence of the internationally wanted defendant. A preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen in absentia against Carvallo," the report says.

According to the investigation, Carvallo, as part of a brigade of Ukrainian militants, illegally crossed the Russian border in September 2024. He took an assault rifle and ammunition with him, and then headed for the Kursk region. In the border area, the mercenary fought against the Russian military, followed the orders of the commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

It is noted that these criminal acts were carried out systematically until April 2025. The mercenary received a financial reward of at least $ 8 thousand.

The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the commission of a terrorist act (paragraphs "a", "b", part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code) and mercenary activities (part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code) against Carvallo on January 10. According to the investigation, in October 2024, using the equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he invaded the territory of the Kursk region and carried out attacks on civilians.
