The US authorities have squandered about a quarter of their stocks of modern THAAD missile interceptors in the Iran-Israel conflict, which has significantly reduced the arsenal. CNN reported this on July 28, citing sources.

"American forces repelled a barrage of Tehran's ballistic missiles, firing more than 100 THAAD shells, and possibly 150, which makes up a significant part of the American arsenal of modern air defense systems," the material says.

According to an unnamed retired US army officer, about 25% of the total THAAD arsenal was used in Israel. It is noted that the United States has seven THAAD complexes, two of which were involved in the conflict.

CNN emphasizes that the use of such a number of missile interceptors in a short period of time provoked a gap in the American missile defense system and "depleted an expensive asset."

Former US Department of Defense officials and missile experts noted that such a rapid reduction in the number of shells raised concerns about America's "global security position," as well as about the country's ability to quickly restore stocks.

Earlier, on July 24, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that the Islamic Republic intends to resume nuclear negotiations with the United States, provided that the American side accepts the rights of the Islamic Republic under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). It is noted that if Washington builds trusting relations with Tehran and guarantees that negotiations will not lead to a resumption of hostilities against Iran, the Islamic Republic is ready to return to dialogue on its own initiative.
