Over the past weekend, 719 road accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 86 people were killed and 934 injured. 69 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on July 28 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

20 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which no one died, but 34 road users, including two children, needed medical attention. Seven bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

So, in the Republic of Bashkortostan, on a regional highway during the rain, a 38-year-old driver of a tourist bus with 42 passengers in the cabin drove onto the side of the road and pulled over with a subsequent rollover. As a result of the incident, eight bus passengers were hospitalized with injuries. Previously, the accident occurred due to a speed discrepancy with specific driving conditions on a wet road.

As a result of 117 road accidents, 29 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 88 outside their area of operation, 17 pedestrians were killed, and another 105 were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 20 young pedestrians, while 16 of them were injured when crossing the roadway in unintended places. 128 accidents involving minors were registered, in which 138 young road users were injured, including 69 passengers, 19 cyclists and 24 motor transport drivers. Nine children were killed, including six passengers, two pedestrians and one motorcycle driver.

In Vologda, in the evening, a 34-year-old crossover driver at an unregulated intersection, when turning left, did not provide an advantage in traffic and collided with a 15-year-old motorcyclist in a motorcycle helmet moving towards him. The teenager died. Due to his age, he did not have a driver's license, and the motorcycle was not registered in accordance with the established procedure.

In the Leningrad region, on 1 km of the highway "Entrance to the Rosinka railway station", a 69-year-old passenger car driver ran over a 14-year-old pedestrian who, in violation of traffic regulations, was moving along the edge of the roadway in the same direction as the motorist. The elderly driver, in case of danger, did not slow down to stop the vehicle, and the student died. In the Novgorod region, on 97 km of the federal highway R-56 Veliky Novgorod — Pskov, a 40-year-old Gazelle truck driver ran over a five-year-old boy who was running across the roadway in the absence of an organized pedestrian crossing in the visible area, despite the fact that he was accompanied by an adult. As a result of the accident, a young pedestrian was killed.

In the Jewish Autonomous Region, at 2,092 km of the Amur Federal District (Chita — Khabarovsk), a 48-year-old passenger car driver drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place, where he collided with another passenger car. Both the perpetrator of the collision and his 10-year-old girl passenger, who was in the front seat in a child restraint with a seat belt, were killed in the car accident. Three passengers of the second passenger car ended up in the hospital, having received injuries.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded motorists that child passengers are one of the most vulnerable categories among underage road users. While driving in a car with a child, it is important to choose a safe driving style, not to be distracted at the wheel, not to exceed the set speed limit, observe a safe side interval and distance between vehicles, and refrain from risky driving, overtaking and entering oncoming traffic, even in permitted places.

Drivers should also be extremely careful when approaching pedestrian crossings, especially unregulated ones. You should not rush to "skip" them as quickly as possible, thereby interfering with other road users, including pedestrians. It is important to be collected and careful, leaving yourself plenty of time to react adequately to a possible change in the traffic situation at any moment. It is also necessary to reduce the speed as much as possible until the vehicle comes to a complete stop in order to allow pedestrians to pass.

Pedestrians were reminded that, according to the requirements of the traffic rules, they must cross the road at pedestrian crossings, and in their absence — at intersections along sidewalks or roadsides. At unregulated pedestrian crossings, pedestrians can enter the roadway only after they assess the distance to approaching vehicles, their speed, and make sure that the crossing will be safe for them. When crossing roads and driving along roadsides or the edge of the carriageway at night or in conditions of insufficient visibility, pedestrians are advised, and outside populated areas they are required to carry objects with retroreflective elements and ensure that these objects are visible to drivers of vehicles.

"In addition, we urge parents not to leave preschool children unattended on the street while walking together. When driving with them on foot near the roadway, including in "calm" courtyard areas, always lead them by the hand in order to exclude possible unpredictable actions of children due to their age, as well as to have time to react to the danger from motorists," the deputy head of the Department of road Safety propaganda told Izvestia. and prevention of children's road traffic injuries GUOBDD of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Police Colonel Anton Belan.

On July 24, it was reported that 100 people died in road accidents in Moscow in the first half of 2025. This is 32% less than in the first six months of 2024, when 147 people died in road accidents.
