A prisoner of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told about his sending to the front by deception

Prisoner of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Vasily Chernets, who surrendered to the Russian military near the village of Yunakovka, Sumy region, said on July 28 that he had been deceived into joining the front.

The man lived in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. He was picked up by the police when he was cleaning up his house and burning garbage. They allegedly wanted to take Chernets to the department so that he would pay the fine, but in fact he got to the staff of the territorial recruitment center (TCC, an analogue of the military enlistment office in Ukraine). From there, he was sent to the front to serve in the 156th separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"For two weeks I did nothing, they didn't take me anywhere. Then they took him on as an intelligence officer. There were 25 of us there at first, then there were about 17 [people] left (the rest escaped. — Ed.). I was somehow afraid that they would find it, then it would get worse," the prisoner said.

After that, he and other military personnel were redirected to Sumy. They told me to dig in and sit still. However, at night Chernets left his position to find drinking water.

"I felt uneasy, I dropped it all and went and got lost. And then I got to yours. Well, everything is fine in Russia, I was accepted. I send my regards to my relatives, I'm fine. Write to me, they will show me the answer, we will communicate," he said.

Maxim Trofimuk, a prisoner of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said on July 26 that due to widespread desertion and deception of the command near Kupyansk, staff officers of the border Guard Service of Ukraine were sent to the front positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He also noted that after the change of the squad commander, the practice of sending staff officers to the front line began to be repeated regularly. The former commander was suspended for multiple cases of desertion.
