Szijjarto announced his intention to meet with Lavrov on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Monday, July 28, that he expects to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York in September.

"In September, we will meet here on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. We always meet every year. There is no reason not to do this this year," the Hungarian minister said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He also noted that he could always talk to Lavrov on the phone.

This should be a reaction to the strengthening of NATO's infrastructure in the Western Balkans.

Szijjarto said yesterday that cooperation with Russia remains an important and mutually beneficial area of Budapest's foreign policy. The Minister added that an honest exchange of views and constant contact with Russian partners is an important basis for such relations.
