Kidney diseases may develop at first without obvious symptoms, and some signs may resemble cystitis. This was told by urologist and andrologist of the Center for Reproductive Health "SM Clinic" Arthur Bogatyrev in an interview with "Gazeta.Ru" on Monday, July 28.

Bogatyrev listed difficulties with urination, swelling on the face and legs, fever and spikes in blood pressure among possible symptoms.

"Kidney pathologies can occur even before birth — in the fetus during intrauterine development, as well as in infants. Congenital diseases appear both immediately after birth and later in life. Acute forms of renal failure are most often diagnosed in children under two years of age," Bogatyrev explained.

In order to detect kidney disease in a timely manner at a stage when symptoms have not yet appeared, it is necessary to undergo regular laboratory examinations. So, general urine and blood tests will help to identify problems in this area.

"Laboratory tests are often the first to find out about kidney malfunctions when a person feels normal on the outside. Therefore, regular prevention is not just a recommendation, but an important measure to protect your health," Bogatyrev said.

Earlier, on July 7, Gurgen Martirosyan, a urologist at SM Clinic, said that vitamin D deficiency in the human body can lead to kidney disorders and the development of urolithiasis. According to research, vitamin D deficiency can lower testosterone levels, which in turn disrupts calcium metabolism and leads to the formation of calcium oxalate stones in the kidneys.

On the same day, Roman Trukhmanov, a urologist and andrologist at SM Clinic, PhD, said that the prevalence of urolithiasis in Russia is growing rapidly: over the past 10 years, the number of patients has increased by more than a quarter.
