In Buryatia, a court sentenced in absentia a man who called for terrorist activities in the Russian Federation on the YouTube video hosting site. This was announced on July 28 by the press service of the Investigative Department (SU) of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia for the region in the Telegram channel.
It was established that the accused left the country in 2021. Even then, he was an "active supporter of the separatist movement."
"While in a foreign country, on his YouTube channel, to which an unlimited number of users have access, he posted a video with his monologue, which contained public calls for terrorist activities aimed at preventing the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to protect the country's territory and citizens," the department said.
The court sentenced the person involved in the case to six years of imprisonment to be served in a correctional colony of general regime. In addition, he was deprived of the right to engage in activities related to the posting of materials on public networks, including the Internet, for three years.
It is noted that the appointed punishment will be executed after the arrest of the man. Currently, the convict has been put on the interstate wanted list.
On May 14, a resident of Kiselevsk was detained in the Kemerovo region for calling for terrorist activities during celebrations dedicated to the celebration of May 9. The man was charged with committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public calls for terrorist activities using the Internet").
In 2023, the State Duma in the second and third readings voted to adopt an amendment to the draft law "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation", according to which acquired citizenship can be deprived for publicly calling for extremism, encroachment on the life of a statesman and for organizing an armed rebellion with the aim of forcibly changing the constitutional order of Russia.
