The head of the parliamentary faction of the National Unification Party, Marine Le Pen, said on July 27 that the trade deal between the European Union (EU) and the United States should be considered a fiasco in terms of politics, economics and morality.

"The trade agreement concluded by [the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen's meeting with [US President] Donald Trump is a political, economic and moral fiasco," she wrote on the social network X.

Le Pen noted that the EU countries have received worse terms of trade agreements than the UK, and this is a political fiasco.

"The Commission has adopted asymmetric provisions that France itself, governed by a patriotic government, would never have accepted. Hundreds of billions of euros of gas, as well as weapons, will have to be imported from the United States every year. This is a complete capitulation of French industry, our energy and military sovereignty," Le Pen explained her position on the economic disadvantage of the agreement.

Earlier in the day, the United States and the European Union (EU) agreed on a trade deal. The agreement will allow the EU to avoid 30% duties that could be imposed by Washington. However, Trump said he did not intend to reduce the level of duties for Brussels from 15%.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he expected big eases from the trade deal.
