- Philippot pointed out the disadvantage of the US trade agreement with the European Union
The trade agreement that US President Donald Trump concluded with the European Union turned out to be less profitable than his agreement with the UK. This was announced on Sunday, July 27, by the leader of the French Patriots party, Florian Philippot, on his page on the social network X.
"Trump has just imposed on [European Commission (EC) President Ursula] von der Leyen a dramatic trade agreement that is much less beneficial than the one that Britain concluded with the United States alone and sovereignly in June," the publication said.
According to the agreement with the EU, customs duties amounted to 15%, while the duty for goods from the UK is only 10%, and in some cases it is not assigned at all.
"After leaving the EU, France will be able to negotiate a much more beneficial agreement for its business and trade," Philippot said.
Earlier, on July 17, Philippot announced the need to withdraw from the European Union, as it undermines French agriculture due to the duty-free import of Ukrainian agricultural products.
Prior to that, on July 3, international political scientist Ruslan Pankratov called the telephone conversation between French President Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin a kind of black mark for European elites, as it means that Paris is looking for alternative ways and distancing itself from the position of the European Union (EU).
