The head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, said on July 27 during a meeting with US President Donald Trump that it was necessary to replace Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) and oil with an American equivalent.

"We will replace Russian gas and oil with significant purchases of American LNG, oil and nuclear fuel," von der Leyen was quoted as saying by the Reuters news agency.

She stressed that the purchase of energy products from the United States will contribute to the energy security of Europe.

Earlier in the day, the United States and the European Union (EU) agreed on a trade deal. The agreement will allow the EU to avoid 30% duties that could be imposed by Washington. However, Trump said he did not intend to reduce the level of duties for Brussels from 15%.

It is noted that the European Union has agreed to purchase $750 billion worth of American energy resources and invest another $600 billion in the United States economy.
