Poland has declared its inability to service Abrams tanks
Poland will no longer be able to service Abrams tank engines purchased in the USA. This was stated on July 27 by the director of the Military Aviation Plant No. 1, Jacek Goszczynski, in an interview with Gazetaprawna.
"Abrams tanks use AGT1500C turboshaft aircraft engines as the power unit, which require specialized industrial maintenance (the so-called Depot Level) at the level of certified aircraft factories. Unfortunately, these requirements were not taken into account when deciding on the purchase of these tanks," he said.
According to him, Poland thought about engine maintenance after it bought them. At the moment, the state has purchased 366 Abrams M1A1 and M1A2SEPv tanks from the United States.3. In addition, Poland has also bought a large number of maintenance vehicles equipped with the same engines.
Goszynski noted that based on negotiations and agreements with the engine manufacturer, which is Honeywell, an authorized service center for this equipment will be launched in Poland. According to him, previously there was not a single factory in Europe that could service such engines. Because of this, their repairs were carried out in the USA.
"The operation of these engines is the same as that of a helicopter. Not only the mileage is important, but even the number of engine starts, operating cycles, and each time the diagnosis shows whether we can continue to use it," he said.
