Cambodia supports an immediate and unconditional ceasefire with Thailand amid an armed conflict on the border between the two countries. This was announced on July 27 by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet following a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump.

"Cambodia agrees with the proposal for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire between the two armed forces," Manet said in an official statement.

According to the head of the Cambodian government, the American president expressed concern about the increase in violence and said that "he does not want to see war and fighting that will lead to numerous casualties among soldiers and civilians." Manet stressed that Trump is committed to mediation and "has already successfully ended conflicts in various countries around the world."

According to the Cambodian Prime Minister, Trump also had a conversation with Acting Thai Prime Minister Phum Tham Vechaichai, following which the Thai side agreed to an immediate truce.

On July 26, Trump demanded an immediate cessation of hostilities between Cambodia and Thailand. He noted that the United States conducts trade with both countries, but does not want to conclude deals with either of them in an armed conflict.

On July 24, an armed clash took place on the disputed border between Thailand and Cambodia. The military of both sides accused each other of firing the first shots.

On July 25, Reuters reported that the escalation of the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia could lead to the outbreak of war. New clashes between the sides were also reported. As a result of the mutual attacks, 15 people were killed.

On the same day, Cambodia called for an immediate ceasefire during a closed-door meeting of the UN Security Council, convened in connection with the escalating border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand.
