The European Union (EU) authorities have come up with a plan to transfer weapons to Ukraine and purchase their replacement from the United States. This was reported by The Washington Post (WP) on July 26.

"Ukraine's European supporters want to benefit from the plan according to which the administration of [US President Donald] Trump will allow countries to transfer existing weapons systems or ammunition to Ukraine, and then purchase replacements," the publication says.

It is also noted that this year Germany amended the constitution, which allowed it to borrow "hundreds of billions of euros" for military spending, including the purchase of weapons for Kiev.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that at least six countries — Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Canada — have declared their readiness to help with supplies.

"Of course, we can't do this alone, we need partners. But we are ready," said Danish Foreign Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen.

The day before, WP reported that Germany had already handed over three Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine and was negotiating new supplies. It is noted that the American initiative to supply weapons to Kiev at the expense of European countries may also include the transfer of radar systems, electronic warfare systems, drone interceptors and artillery.
