Trump demanded an immediate cease-fire between Cambodia and Thailand
US President Donald Trump on Saturday, July 26, demanded an immediate cessation of hostilities between Cambodia and Thailand.
"I just spoke with the Prime Minister of Cambodia about ending the war with Thailand. Right now, I am calling the acting Prime Minister of Thailand to also demand a cease-fire and an end to the war that is currently raging," Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.
He noted that the United States conducts trade with both countries, but does not want to conclude deals with either of them in an armed conflict.
Trump stressed that he was trying to "simplify a difficult situation" and recalled that the conflict between Pakistan and India had previously been stopped in this way.
On July 24, an armed clash took place on the disputed border between Thailand and Cambodia. The military of both sides accused each other of firing the first shots.
On July 25, Reuters reported that the escalation of the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia could lead to the outbreak of war. New clashes between the sides were also reported. As a result of the mutual attacks, 15 people were killed.
On the same day, Cambodia called for an immediate ceasefire during a closed-door meeting of the UN Security Council, convened in connection with the escalating border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand.
