- The Lebanese director negatively assessed the cancellation of Gergiev's concert in Italy
The political situation in the world should not affect the cultural sphere, it is accessible to all people, regardless of nationality. This was announced to Izvestia on July 26 by Lebanese director and founder of the Abdel-Halim Karakalla Dance Theater.
This is how he commented on the cancellation of the symphony concert in Italy by the Russian conductor and director general of the Bolshoi Theater Valery Gergiev.
"The political situation should not affect the cultural sphere. I believe that all people enjoy art, and this applies not only to citizens of a particular state, but also to the whole world. Everyone can draw joy and inspiration from the art of others," he believes.
The Lebanese director noted that what happened to Gergiev's concert was sad. He added that it is art that expresses a humanistic message for all peoples of the world. At the same time, any person who is engaged in creativity does not belong to a particular country or nationality, but belongs to all of humanity.
"Any creator belongs to all of humanity. Generations change, and one generation transmits a message of love, peace, and beauty to another. Art expresses a humanistic message for all peoples of the world. I think what happened is very sad," Caracalla said.
According to Caracalla, the people of Lebanon would be honored by Gergiev's arrival in the country.
"This is a fusion of cultures, something that we always strive for, something that our Caracalla Theater strives for, we would be glad to receive Gergiev's contact," he concluded.
On July 20, a rally was held in Italy against Gergiev's concert. The protests were attended mainly by representatives of the Ukrainian and Georgian diasporas, wrapped in the flags of their states. It is known that individuals listed in Russia as extremists and terrorists are behind the protest organization. The next day, the management of the Royal Palace of Caserta in Italy canceled Gergiev's symphony concert.
