Rescue operations are continuing at the scene as a result of a gas explosion in a multi-storey building in Saratov, people may remain under the rubble of the building. This was reported on July 26 by a correspondent of Izvestia.

"There are several pieces of equipment working at the site, both escalators and cranes, and, of course, rescuers who manually dismantle these rubble. The building collapsed, and that's it — from the tenth to the first floor it went into the basements, people can still be there," he said.

The governor of the Saratov region, Roman Busargin, noted that currently the rescue services have carried out 50% of the debris removal. He added that due to the possible presence of people under the rubble, rescue operations are being carried out very carefully.

According to one of the eyewitnesses of the incident, the explosion occurred unexpectedly — shaking began, fragments of the building began to fall. Later, the man ran outside and saw that part of the entrance had collapsed.

"It's all a collapse, I hear something falling, falling, falling, then silence. Well, just a little bit of dust… I jump out into the street, a neighbor shouts: "Help me get my son out, and there are plates," he concluded.

The explosion in a multi-storey building in Saratov occurred on July 25. A criminal case has been opened into the incident, and a regional state of emergency has been declared in the Saratov Region.
